I and Love and You
I stopped at your house today,
But found you'd moved to another town.
I tried to find your new address,
But found only an empty house.
I couldn't find you, but you didn't want to be found.
In my heart I suddenly lost you,
in my mind I couldn't see your face.
You left me in my loneliness,
You kicked me when I was down.
But when you stopped me in the street,
my broken heart skipped a beat.
Your eager face, your so-soft smile-
you charmed me again with your careless wiles.
My heart, so broken, seemed to mend,
'til I saw him come around the bend.
It was then that my poor heart splintered into a thousand pieces again.
You ran up to me, joy in your eyes, and hugged me tight.
What could I say?
When you asked, I told you-
The three words that were suddenly hard to say...
"I" and "love" and "you."
