The Miscellaneous Poem Wall
Math assignments
English handouts
Science labs
History worksheets
Old Shoelaces
Torn papers
Gum wrappers
Popsicle sticks
Used notecards
Restaurant napkins
All pinned
With rainbow tacks
To an awkward
Spongeboard,
Cluttering each other
Overlapping crudely.
Covered in
Inky blotches
Scratched-out letters
And words—
Marvelous words
That couldn’t wait
Until a regular piece of paper
Could come.
No, they had
To be spilled onto
My life,
Had to be poured into
A random spot,
Fill the empty spaces
Of time…
I stand back
Proudly.
My wall
Of words
Makes me
Smile..
And then run hurriedly to
An old report card
To jot this poem
Down.
