Love Letter
I hope you will not mind it if I write you a love letter.
Just watching you sleep there, unencumbered for once,
free of all the burdens the world has thrust upon your shoulders,
it made me love you.
And as out of necessity I must never reveal how much, do not begrudge this letter
full of feelings I can not name,
that enveloped me
When you blinked drowsily
I knew I wanted to encase the soft character of your eyes in shining golden strands.
You wouldn't mind would you?
You, who have always graciously ignored the slips of tongue and forgiven the lights shining from my eyes. You have been so kind, if only because you see all of my ghosts save one.
I always did do love poems best of all- they preserve the moments that are secret and fleeting
For when you rubbed the last vestiges of sleep from your eyes,
I knew the moment had passed, and it was time to draw this letter to a close.
