A single hand rose out of the ocean
Miles from the shore
It caught his eye
An apparent cry for help
He ran through the waves
Tripping as he went
And then they came
Stealthily creating a circle around him
Jellyfish
He was oblivious to the danger
Slipping between the tentacles to her
He grabbed her hand
Now submerged
Slinging her over his shoulder
Struggling back to shore
A sudden pain shot through his leg
He limped slowly
Collapsing on the sand
He threw her further
Immediately the life drained out from his body
Slowly
It slipped into hers
Eyelashes blinked
A subtle whisper
To be heard by no one
