I Lost Myself
I lost myself to the shadows of society
My heart torn up by the thorns of lies
Stabbed in the back with knives of deceit
I lost myself in a web of sadness
The spider of pain tightens its grip
I am unable to escape
I lost myself in a river of troubles
Drowning under years of distress
Losing myself under the currents of insanity
I lost myself in the fire of destruction
Scars of self hate becoming evident
Failures carved into my soul
I lost myself in the forest of confusion
My soul becoming frozen with each ticking minute of protection
Becoming consumed by claws of illusion
I lost myself to the lessons of the past
Silently reliving my mistakes
Brainwashing myself to think everything will be alright
I lost myself to the false sense of security
Believing I can't be hurt by those I trust
With every betrayal, lie, and heartache my heart closes up

People are like stained-glass windows.
They sparkle and shine when the sun is out,
but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed
only if there is a light from within.
