Keep Walking
You hear them whispering in the halls,
Shifting their feet, glaring,
You hear them pointing, avoiding your gaze,
Wincing, frowning,
You don’t feel different, you don’t feel strange,
You just keep on walking,
You hear them gossiping, pitying, even worrying,
Yet you just keep on walking,
You feel the tension in the air, the difference,
The revulsion, the apprehension,
You just keep on the walking,
You tell yourself everything is the same,
One car, one accident,
A broken hand, a deformed face,
I’m still the same,
You walk past more stares, more whispers, more pointing,
Hold your head high, and you just keep on walking
