Do You Know Me?
Do you know me?
I know you think you do.
You look upon the surface,
but deeper is where I dwell through and through.
You see my face
You see a mask
You see my strengths
And you see my past
You look upon the surface,
but the water’s not much to see
unless you dive down deeper,
where my soul is finally set free.
Do you know me?
Do you know I’m more than just a brain?
I’m not a perfect snapshot,
and I’m more than your little game.
Do you know me?
Do you know my life’s not a perfect ten?
Do you know that I have struggles?
Do you know I have to pretend?
You look upon the surface,
but you don’t look deep enough
to realize you don’t know me
without the pretenses and fluff.
Do you know me?
Do you know my selfish side?
Do you know that I am stubborn,
or that I get frightened and run and hide?
Do you know me?
Do you know that I am strong?
Do you know that I’m determined,
or that I know right from wrong?
If you dive below the surface,
you’ll be surprised at what you’ll find.
Revelations will abound
like vision to the blind.
If you dive below the surface,
you’ll realize the biggest shock of all
is that I don’t know if I want you
to see these things at all.
