Inhale
Foreheads pressed together
Hands bunched in cotton
We inhale
As I struggle to remember
Coffee
The look in your eyes
The sound of your voice
You
Committing you to memory
We struggle to remember that begging feeling
The excitement
Rushed looks
And lousy promises
Trying to memorize
The love
The commitment
That never was commitment
And never really love
You were rebellion dressed in khakis
I was naivety in spring dresses
We were fate intervened
Yet I still celebrate the memory of your cologne and coffee breath
You celebrate
The smell of my shampoo
Strict spring dresses
Never emotionally
Cold hearts can beat again
But slanted ‘I love you’s’ will never beat them warm
So darling,
Help me push the past behind
And we’ll celebrate the yesterdays
Coffee and spring dresses
You darling
And me
