The Seagulls Still Fly
That big wave,
Moving, slowly, closer, closer
Closer, rising into the air,
Crinkling at the edges
Closer, closer, breaking, crashing
I watch as it comes, almost
Letting it tickle my
Toes, touch my head
But it swallows me in
Its overwhelming strength
I can't breathe,
Sucked beneath the surface,
Stolen from
Everything I love
And need in my life
The sea sits calmly
Nothing is disturbed, perhaps
Someone heard a scream, muffled
By the waves
But nothing else has changed
The browning beach grass still
Rustles in the wind
The seagulls still fly
Combing the fine grains of sand for
Trash littered by the people
Who don't care
I'm gone
But nothing's changed
