a little bit about Mrs. Birch
A little bit about Mrs. Birch
Mrs. Birch sat across from a fountain,
The one that reminded her that
She was drowning,
But maybe she just felt hot.
Or needed a bath like we all do.
Or she was feeling lucky that day and the next.
And
Mrs. Birch threw a dime a day into the fountain.
And the park ranger would yell.
But maybe one day,
It’ll pay her back.
And he’ll stop yelling
And maybe she didn’t have to feed all her years to the pigeons,
But they reminded her that
She wished to fly away.
And maybe one day
They’ll pay her back, make her young again.
Mrs. Birch never left that park.
Maybe she was glued there forever,
Besides, she had the trees to speak to.
Maybe she hopes to become one of the statues.
Then,
She’ll be seen,
or continue to rot.
But she hoped to be smiling.
