The Knick-Knack
Knick-Knacks in the back of the shop,
Hundreds waiting to be on a desk or a shelf,
Some stay still, some dance in the sun,
Some are unexplainable.
The shopkeeper walked me through,
“I’m looking for a solar one,” I said.
“Well you’re just in luck!,
There's a new one that’s in stock!”
Bought from his brother’s vendor
He held it up to the sun,
It danced angrily, undulating side to side
With a funny frown on its face.
“He wiggles, jiggles, convulses freely
Even better, he has no batteries!
Like this one up here that I own
Now listen up, sonny, here’s where it’s weird!”
His eyes met the Knack’s face,
It’s eyes flashed a blinding white,
Nine seconds past, he stood still,
Eyes fixated on the tiny thing.
“Don’t worry,” he said. “It just paused my mind,
He doesn’t do this to the first guy he sees
So what do you think? Go prank your friends!”
I bought a Knack without thinking twice.
