Softly-Cushioned Chair
Grimacing laughs are a soft cushion for
the weight of our conversation.
In the middle of a sentence;
this conversation has a heavy burden
on comforted lies.
Silence neared and elevated me;
from the softly-cushioned chair.
Into the foyer
with me.
And in the middle of that sentence
the conversation ended with
the heavy burden on comforted lies,
where silence elevated me;
grimacing laughs are a soft cushion for
the weight of our conversation.
Grimacing laughs lifted our spirits;
the heavy silence
lifted the softly cushioned chair.
Into the foyer
with me.
Comforted lies weigh down on
my heavy burden;
In the middle of a sentence
we don’t bother picking up
the weight of our conversation.

This piece is based solely on the overwhelming anxiety of what one might believe to be a conversation about them but is, however, not about them at all. I tried stringing together the feelings one might feel in that experience by deliberately making the sentences seem cut short and vague.
