If Only
“If Only”
By Kami L’le
If you were here right now, what would you say?
Would you still love me even today?
Would you criticize me or stand in shame?
Would you praise my ideas or feel I’m to blame?
If only we cared more, you would still be here,
If only they loved you, you would never be feared.
If only I could turn back time,
I would still have the honor to call you “mine”.
I’m sorry that I couldn’t make you stay,
But now, thunder cracks since you’ve gone away.
If only I showed my love for you
But I didn’t know what you were going through.
I’m so sorry that you suffered silently
I’m sorry the voices wailed violently.
I hate the fact that you couldn’t see
All the remarkable things you meant to me.
I finally reached my dream
I finally realize now,
All the things you did for me
Because you showed me how.
You knew me better than anyone
Yet you treasured and held the gun.
So I’m writing this letter to put on your grave,
Maybe then, your legacy will be saved.
