Music fills you with that Power

“You’re the man, but I got the, I got the, I got the power; You make rain, but I’ll make it, I’ll make it, I’ll make it shower; You should know, I’m the one who’s in control; I’ll let you come take the wheel, as long as you don’t forget…”

That makes you Lose Yourself

“You better lose yourself in the music; The moment, you own it, you better never let it go; You only get one shot; Do not miss your chance to blow; This opportunity comes once in a lifetime, yo…”

That makes you remember that House of Memories

“Baby, we built this house on memories; Take my picture now, shake it till you see it; and when your fantasies; Become your legacy; Promise me a place, in your house of memories…”

That you thought would bring back your Bad Habits

“My bad habits lead to late nights endin’ alone; Conversations with a stranger I barely know; Swearin’ this’ll be the last, but it probably won’t; I got nothin’ left to lose, or use, or do…”

Instead making you Shut Up and Dance

“Oh, don’t you dare look back, just keep your eyes on me’ I said, ‘You’re holding back’, she said, ‘Shut up and dance with me’; This woman is my destiny, she said, ‘Ooh hoo shut up and dance with me…”

To All About That Bass

“Because you know I’m all about that bass, ‘bout that bass, no treble; I’m all about that bass, ‘bout that bass, no treble; I’m all about that bass, ‘bout that bass, no treble; I’m all about that bass, ‘bout that bass…”

Pumping you up, only giving you those Cheap Thrills

“Baby I don’t need dollar bills to have fun tonight (I love cheap thrills!); Baby I don’t need dollar bills to have fun tonight (I love cheap thrills!); I don’t need no money you worth more dan diamonds, more dan gold…”

Of having music, the Moves

“It’s your moves, baby ‘cause I can’t dance in the way that you do; But I got that love that you ain’t used to, hey; and when the DJ’s spinnin’ that song that we groove to; Oh my, come and teach me how to dance…”

And some of the best Nights.

“He said, one day you’ll leave this world behind; So live a life you will remember; My father told me when I was just a child; These are the nights that never die; My father told me…”

The author's comments:

With this poem, I wanted to try something new. Over the course of the summer, I had been listening to a lot of music. With that, I have decided to write a poem that essentially describes what music does to someone using the titles of a few songs that I have listened to. The first line of each stanza contains that song title at the end, which is then followed by two or three lines of that song's lyrics.
