Inescapable Escapism

When alone, at the cliff of life

At an inevitably lonely hour and time

our fears, dreams and doubts creep around.

like tiptoeing children playing hide and seek.

thoughts give in to expression, form and sound

rattled and disquiet, burning at the highest peak

The hollowness and darkness inside

A depthless oblivion

nips at us again and again

as if begging to be given mercy

To be let out and let free.

Knowing or unknowingly, we do just that

In various forms of art, colour and passion

We let out bits of our soul and emotion

Some read and read and escape with the words

Some sing their emotions out

Some use a canvas to create their own world

Some let dance clear their doubts

Some explore the wonder of things

Some use their imagination and create

Some itch to find the secret behind the workings.

Others find other means of escape

We all find one thing to live on

Whether it be art or adrenaline

but we do it for only one reason

to escape darkness, emotion or sin.

This piece is really close to my heart because it captures my feelings in the COVID situation. I stopped doing things i loved for the pleasure they gave me but instead started doing them to escape reality.

I love the way you explain people's need for emotional outlets. This poem has a deep and powerful message to it :)
