Afraid
My fears seldom drift away,
they cling to my conscience,
I try to release, to let go, but they stay,
Heavily weighing on me,
forcing me to isolate, to distance myself from others
Missing opportunities,
afraid to raise my hand because of what they may think
Afraid to join in,
don’t know the people around me,
I weep, suffer in silence,
Always some aspect of torture,
Have to hide in the shadows,
leave the tears covered behind,
No one knows,
feel awkward,
insecure,
afraid. . .

This was written during a time in my life when I felt alone and afraid to speak up and branch out to meet new people.
