A Void in Violet
Where did you meet?
Someone familiar, yet unreachable,
Like a half-formed sneeze:
And that, too, is familiar.
Words swim through your head.
Her lips don’t move.
She tries, fails, to smile.
Tears well in amaranthine eyes.
A hand reaches for yours--
You blink. Who…?
No-one was here.
Only your footprints in the dust.
Lilac clings to the edge of your vision,
Memories to the edge of your mind.
You are alone.
You weren’t, once.
