Fake
Fake is forever.
Not fake like the feelings that strangers try to convince you are real,
Not fake like the lies that your “friends” whisper in your ear,
Fake like the perpetual, the never-ending: the forever.
The living captured in time.
A sculpture of an influential person lasts much longer than their life,
A sculpture of an artist is a frozen picture of them and their creativity,
Sculptures are longer lasting: a life captured in time.
A fake rose.
Not like a dream or as quick-to-go as a breath,
Not like a memory or a ghost passing by,
But something made with more effort and passion--a rose of beads and wire.
I don’t love you like a lie.
I don’t love you like a picture to delete.
I don’t love you like a dream.
I love you like a star that still burns no matter how far away in time it is.
