The River of Marching Band
A tributary of freshmen power into the
river. They
stumble through the
steady currents of
sophomores and seniors,
struggling to match the flow.
The band collects in a
creek,
synching their sound
waves as they learn the
music and drill for their show.
While drifting along the daily rehearsals,
water droplets collide –
stand partner's, a senior
mentoring a freshman–
forming a friendship as strong as a
hydrogen bond.
Storming football stadiums,
basketball courts, and pep assemblies,
the band surges the school. Their songs
ripple through the crowd,
rallying the home team to
victory.
Leading the ensemble
with their rip currents,
the seniors rush through their
final marching season. After four years of
gaining momentum, they can’t
slow the flow.
The seniors drain from the stream
as they find a new
river.

This is an extended metaphor poem written for my high school english class. It compares a river to a marching band.
