Just Like You
I can’t cover all the cracks
Winding through the broken glass
Easy patterns in night hours
Drinking lies while holding power
Insults fall in forecast rain
Drops then showers of complaints
This is where I learned to fear
Watch my steps another year
So I retreat ‘cause I’m afraid
Of all the choices that you’ve made
History repeats, guess I’m doomed
I’m going to end up just like you
Barbed wire in poison paths
Must be awful looking back
So why wish the same on me?
It ruined you from what I see
Painting walls with a fresh hell
Doesn’t fill this empty shell
The rain starts to look like hail
Glass is shattered by betrayal
You never taught me how to swim
And now the ice is wearing thin
I’ll teach myself so I don’t pay
For the things you throw away
If they knew you, they’d agree
If only you’d wind up just like me
But you were first so I’ll be last
Bringing light to a darkened past
So I retreat ‘cause I’m afraid
Of the choices I’ll never make
History is dead, and I’m through
You can’t make me just like you
