Missing You
The softest breeze grazes my tear stained cheek,
I turn ever so slowly only to see you staring at me,
You reach out your hand; your fingers are dangerously close to brushing mine,
I crack a smile, my chapped lips sting in the process, but I don’t care at the time,
You’re so close now I can almost feel you,
Your bright eyes are twinkling like nothing’s new,
Salty, and warm tears start to stream back down my face,
You frown at my sadness, and stroke your thumb over my cheek, bringing me out of my daze,
I rest my face in your hand, wondering how much longer our moment will last,
Memories float through my head, and my mind is consumed by the past,
Your hand slides away from me, and I sigh,
You give me a small wave goodbye,
I reach out at you, and try to make you stay,
But my fingers pass right through your body, keeping me at bay,
Your body glistens and sways before you slowly dissipate in the light of the moon,
I turn around, and stare somberly at your gravestone,
Goodbye, I whisper in my head as I stand up and brush the dirt of my knees,
With a final mournful look, and final salty tear, I turn, and leave.
