And I Loved You
And I loved you
As only a teenage girl can;
Passionately, sensually, briefly
Heart half suffused by lust
Half by competition
You were as much a friend to me
As you were my arm candy
Being unknowingly paraded by my side
While I basked in the envy
Of girls.
And I trusted you
As only a girl can trust only a boy
Whispering the most innocent of guilts
And ushering the darker secrets
Under the thrush carpet of my fuddled mind
For although you claim you wouldn’t judge
In this world
All is subjective.
And I was your companion
Through thin and thin
Our connection too shallow
To hold afloat
The thicker of your wooden pains.
