When can I call-
If I ever feel the need to?
When can I call-
That is to say, I'm wanted to?

You leave snowflakes in my ear
Wrap me in a blanket of fleece
So I might melt your words away

Straddle this swing with me
Like we used to
When we could talk,
Without thinking twice.
When we could talk
And not have to try

Art never seemed so loveless
As when you sang your words of good-bye
Your guitar strings strum
And my eyes turn to run
From this devilish sight of you gone

Chords of broken hearts
Your striking words
Like digging nails
And stories of what's to come
Of what goodbye will mean to me

Your shadow doesn't follow
I don't see you standing beside
So I'll cry alone
On this long walk home
And wonder who your next
Listener will be

The author's comments:
I was actually inspired to write this by other writers whose word usage was so unique. They had great plays on words that I really wanted to try out. I wanted the feeling a reader would get to be of a friendship evolving into a relationship that faltered due to the relationship. She had always been there for him and listened to his songs, but soon his songs grew cold and she was no longer needed in his life.

I find this poem to be almost inspiring. What really makes it great is that anybody can relate to what the poem is saying, it's typical of relationships. Your poem successfully creates a picture in the reader's mind, rather than telling them. That's been a problem for me in many of my poems. Anyway, I think you did a great job and I'd love to read more.
