Eyes
I stare as she stares
a trade of hopeful curiosity
a study of one another's Eyes
This girl I knew so long ago,
a love so real and true
but a failure and disaster too,
has locked me on her empowered eyes
We've both moved on,
although I often wonder,
whether she ever knew this love at all,
as I refuse to drop my guard,
prevention of a Fall.
And yet my heart still swells and aches,
a wound that cannot be healed,
a reminder of yesterday's pain,
a lesson with much to gain.
I fight the urge,
to run a stray,
and reveal my heart's desire,
by insulting or ignoring,
the girl from long ago.
As life goes on,
never taking a break,
or remembering for memories' sake,
she can still call me on all my lies,
or see beyond my wooden mask,
for with one glance of hope or chance,
I'm captured by those familiar eyes.
