The corrupt black whales
lounging beneath the glowing ocean
Waiting silently
Whispering in hushed wind.

The schools of stinky, metallic fish
swim beside in utter shame
Ignorant of the sly spells
Living in lies.

The corrupt black whales
moving too slow to see
Wondering when
Watching through grains of sand.

The author's comments:
When I was a little girl, I had a fear that originated from my love of Pinocchio. I was afraid of driving around at night, because the mountains around me looked like the giant whale, Monstro. I remember being afraid that the whales would pick me up and carry me away.
I don't exactly know why I thought this. I wasn't taught to fear whales, in fact I loved them, but I was still afraid of the black mountains against the blue sky. Perhaps the blue sky looked like the ocean and the black humps looked like whale backs? Assuming that is correct, I wrote this poem inspired by my childhood fear.

I liked this poem. You grabbed me with "The corrupt black whales." I thought that was a beautiful phrase. Good job!
