Have ye heard of the weeping willow
Where people go to rest
Rest from the grief that fills them up
Till it’s bursting out their chest

One of these few was Mr. John Hawk
Whose wife had passed away
He swore he was to die of grief
Till he meet a black bird that day

The bird, it said, Please do not cry
I have a place you must go
Go beyond the mountain there
To the sleeping weeping willow

Have ye heard of the weeping willow
Where people go to rest
Rest from the grief that fills them up
Till it’s bursting out their chest

Said Mr. Hawk, Why must I go,
To the tree you say is there
Can it bring back my dearly beloved
With her angle face and chestnut hair

The bird it looked then turned away
And left him with this thought
If you wish to escape the grief you feel
A miracle I have brought

Have ye heard of the weeping willow
Where people go to rest
Rest from the grief that fills them up
Till it’s bursting out their chest

Mr. Hawk he climbed to the mountain top
To find the weeping willow
At the very moment he saw the tree
He then knew his grief would go

He ran straight down the mountain side
His spirits lifting as he stepped
And soon he reached the tree’s great trunk
Where he sat and happily wept

Have ye heard of the weeping willow
Where people go to rest
Rest from the grief that fills them up
Till it’s bursting out their chest
