Where Im From
I’m from the boons
I’m from hardwork and big payoffs
I’m from the gold of a summer wheat harvest, where mom brings us supper in the field, we all grab a bag and make sure to hug her, then keep on going
I’m from living off of PB&J and coffee all harvest, with a touch of Monster to keep us all awake
I’m from starting at 4:30pm, when i get off the bus, to ending at 2:30am, to take a nap and go to school, then start all over again
I’m from the time honored tradition of Spartan Football and FFA
Where I do what i can to keep Mom proud
I’m from the exhausting heat of shoulder pads on a Friday night, and the feeling of those blue corduroy jackets on judging day
I’m from where those both bring pride
Where I’m from a trucks a Ford and the tractors are green
Where I’m from God is always first
Where I’m from only harvest and deer season are excuses to miss church
I’m from the beautiful sound of a 7.3L Stroker idling and the white smoke of a tractor starting on those cold October mornings
I’m from the land of the Hoosier
I’m from “them fat farmboys playing basketball against the barn” with boots, dirty jeans, and my best friend
I’m from no shirts, no blood, no foul
I am the heartland, the one who works to let you eat, the one who gets no respect, and is classified “redneck”
I’m from Indiana
I’m no hick
Just a country boy
And that’s all I’ll ever be
