Survival
Survival.
The pain and horror in their eyes,
the innocence in their hearts.
Stopping.
"Mommy! Mommy!" She was going to sleep now.
The bugs on the ground kept her company as they were running from all the giants.
It was cold and dark.
I only saw one familiar face.
Among the few I stand,
covered in dirt,
protected by my sister but revealed by the moon.
Our feet got tired,
our arms gave out.
I watched in my families eyes,
the light go out.
Then, I had no idea the accident of history I was.
She left,
my sister,
that day.
As I stare out the window,
it's becoming a daze.
Three years went by,
and I got older.
Would I ever see that face again?
The one that saved me from danger.
She was back again but not as familiar,
this time there was no danger.
Survival.
The pain and horror in their eyes,
and the innocence in their hearts.
Stopping.
Finally it became hard to breathe in the cold,
harsh air I once knew so well.
Surviving for a while until my heart stopped...too.
