Favorite Quote:
A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.
-Malcolm X

Standing within the surreal embrace,
A reflecting pool impassively stares back.

I cringe over all my dreams,
Of the past.

If memory serves,
I had been struck by the hammer,
In my ignorant daze,
I recounted a dream…

The humans were merciless,
But I cared not.
I danced a fool’s dance,
Sang the idiot’s song,
Stumbled over and fell,
Happily entrenched in the excess of the dream.

The next morning,
I arose to the melody of coughs.
And lay awake listening,
To the lilt of stupid conversation.
A throbbing pain,
In my epicenter,
Dulled my sense to contemplate

Injustice takes its course,
Rampantly of course.
And I am happily entrenched,
In my own,

It ate my heart,
This frivolic dream.

Whitened my soul,
Beyond purity, the dream did.

And the killer,
That ever elusive killer,
To take away my frivolity,
And deprive me of this eternal pleasure.

That killer still remains unseen.

I will kill the killer armed with truth
I will continue living in the world of impassioned youth,

For I am the bearer,
Of the Alcoholic Dream

This was a little confusing, but overall it was a smooth read. I like the title a lot as well as the vivid imagery throughout the piece. Nice work!

I read this poem many times before I could understand it. It is so deep.

I love the way you express the emotions so vividly with rich words. I am normally not very interested in poems, but this poem really caught my interest and imagination.

I don't know who the killer is, though.

And after reading the line, "And the killer still remains unseen", I assume you don't either.

Wow, this one is great too. I think your poetry has a nice flow, and raw emotion expressed very poetically, so unlike many other poems today. I really like the tone of this poem, and I think that the narrator's campaign against the truth of the injust world is something that so many people try to fight and write about, but few others on TeenInk have expressed it as aptly as you do. Great job!

The imagery of this poem reminds of feelings you feel after you have a hangover and it seems the " killer" in this poem is the alcohol.
