Jakey - By Laura Rogne
Jakey
Laura Rogne,
You were one of a kind
The best dog anyone could hope for
From the way you lumbered around
To the way you sat by the table, always begging for more
Head of a bear, body of a lion
Color of the sunshine
The soul of an angel
Trapped in the body of a dog
You brought sunshine to endless thundering nights
The puppy with the purple collar
The smallest of the bunch
Becomes the giant oaf
With more love to give than time to share
Nothing could compare
We walk through the door
Tired from a long day
And there you are, laying across the old wooden the table
As if it's the most normal place to be
We walk through the door
And there you are
Wagging your tail, drooling on the floor
But we can't help but smile, as we walk through the door
We walk through the door
Waiting to see your face
But now you are gone, and all that lingers is a trace
A trace of what used to be
A trace of time passed
And now I look at the table
Where you used to lay
And wonder
Who will make the sunrise
On the next shinning day
