Ocean Poems
1. Overflow
As soon as the waves crashed on the shore,
I held my breath.
The anticipation grew,
As I dove into the depths, I felt safe.
However, as I returned to the land, my body overflowed with sorrow.
2. What Could've Been
I cursed my lack of luck.
I regretted the words that left my mouth.
I watched you descend into the deep while I stayed on the boat.
I wasted my hours, wondering when you would return.
As soon as you ascended from the deep, your words echoed in my mind and I felt regret in my heart and veins.
Your words were, "Ning, you've missed it! We saw a whale shark!”
3. The Sea And I
Despite the fact I grew up on the land,
My world was always covered in black and white.
As soon as I saw you on the tv screen,
My eyes sparkled in wonder.
Years went by and my admiration for you grew.
When an opportunity arrived at my doorstep,
I took it with no hesitation.
As I descended into the deep blue sea, I felt like I first saw colors again.
4. The World Is My Turtle
For generations, the phrase, ‘The world will be their oyster’, still lingered around the world.
However, that phrase didn’t seem right to me.
When someone recited those words, questions entered my mind: ‘Why an oyster?’, ‘Why not a turtle?’.
Turtles have carried healing and tranquility since the late Permian period.
A turtle’s shell always represented a shield to me.
The world is my turtle.
