Curbside Dreaming
He sits on the paved curb, lost to his dreams,
When he looks up, is the sky what it seems,
When I see it through his eyes instead of mine?
Because in his dark eyes there is a star-like shine,
And his eyes are the skies of every dream I have seen,
Dark hair, blue jeans, and barely seventeen,
I want to hide all my dreams in those midnight eyes,
While I fall and tumble into their dark skies,
His shoulders carry all the strength I have lost,
He holds my dreams is his eyes, but at what cost?
I’m losing my way in them, but he doesn’t know,
I lost my grip on the world, does it show?
The sky tumbles down, I watch my dream as it crashes,
If I ever land, I hope it’ll be in the protection of his lashes,
But until these words make it to the turn of my smile,
I’ll watch him dream on the curb for a while.
