The Great Surprise
One of the greatest days of my life began when my friend was over. We were sitting in my room talking, and my mom came in.
“I have to tell you something.” She said, with a shocking smile.
“Yes mom?” I answered.
“I’m having a baby and I need you to call your dad and tell him.” She said.
I was shocked. I couldn’t process the news at first because my mom already had five kids. In my opinion, another would be too many. My dad was already living in Texas, due to his job, she wanted me to call and tell him to see what he would say. At first, he just couldn’t believe it. He thought we were saying some joke.
When my mom left my room, my friend and I started jumping up and down, and screaming with excitement. I was the only girl with four brothers. I’ve been asking for a sister since I was very young. After a few months passed, we finally moved to Texas with my dad. But we still didn’t know the gender of the baby. Every day I prayed and hoped for a little sister.
When the day came for my mom’s doctor’s appointment, I had school. Sadly, I had to wait until I got home to find out what she was having. But I remember walking in the house, and my mom handing me her ultrasound.
“It’s a girl!” she said, with a smile.
I immediately smiled and hugged my mom. That was the best news I had gotten so far in my life. Every day after that, I couldn’t wait for my sister to be born.
On November fourth, it was late at night. I was sleeping. My dad had woke me up saying he was going to take my mom to the hospital because her water broke. I was half asleep when he told me that, so I didn’t really get to understand what he said until I woke up that morning and my aunt told me what happened.
My mom was only seven months pregnant, so I was worried. They tried to keep my sister in as long as possible but she was ready to come out. Later that day, my mom called my aunt and told her she had the baby. We were able to go visit a few days after. But since my sister was so small, and was born early, she was kept in a certain room for about a month. Only the adults were able to go in. That upset me. But what made me happy, was that I got to name her. I named her Krystal.
The day I was able to see her, was when my mom came home. Krystal was in the crib. I looked at her. It was my first time seeing her in person. I felt these tears racing down my cheeks. Her beautiful blue eyes sparkled in the reflection of the light. She barely had any hair, but you were able to see it was a pretty dirty blonde color. She was so beautiful to me. When she turned to look at me, she gave me a warm smile. I loved her so much already.
