Me Against the World
I walk through the halls of the packed high school yet still feel alone. Not only do I feel alone I feel invisible. I watch couples cuddling on the sides of the hall and groups of friends clustering up making nobodies like me struggle with getting through the halls. I watch as everyone has a group except me. I walk alone with my head phones blasting in my ears as a barrier between myself and reality. As I weave between small gaps in the halls I keep my head down to avoid any confrontation. I act as if I don't need a group on the outside while secretly hoping to be accepted, to know I belong somewhere. But dreams are made for sleeping not when we're awake. Although, as I slowly raise my head I see a light at the end of this dark tunnel I've been traveling through. Even if as faint as a flickering candle in the distance, it shows as a sign of hope. But my journey is not over, the battle not won. I have many more hurdles to pass before I can reach my victory. I know it will be a long fight but the accomplishment is worth the fight.
