Stronger Than You Thought
My Grandma Lee had just passed away, and my family was gathered at a small funeral home. Each of us was expressing our grief in our own way; me, I was with my cousin laughing about the good times. But in a connected room I found my father, embracing my baby brother, while tears streamed down his face.
My dad was always the guy to show his muscles off and mess around like a jokester. “We have to remember that Grandma wouldn’t want us to be sad!” my father had said. I knew he was right but I didn’t want to believe him because I myself was sad that she was gone…forever. My dad would always act like a tough guy but the mounds of tissues next to him proved otherwise. “I love you, Dad,” I said as I hugged him.
