My Hero
I know this guy
he fights all the time
each and everyday
he puts his life on the line
he rushes to the hall
after he puts on his gear
his pager sounds off
loud and clear
he gets in the truck
honks the horn
and turns the sirens up
with worry and fear
of what they may find
hidden in that fire
late that night
a mother with her unborn child
an underage teen drunk and to wild
an old couple resting married for years
or children watching their house filled with tears
the devil wants to win
but these guys will fight till the end
with all their heart and might
god help them save a life
he goes back to the hall
thanking god for his life
for another chance
to hug and kiss his wife
he comes through the door
covered with ash and dirt
its been a long night
so he'll clean up first
he comes and lays down
beside his caring wife
to tell her the tale
of what happened that night
the car had flipped over
a couple of times
the baby in the back
was the only one alive
the car caught on fire
others still inside
the baby had flown out
which saved his life
he didn't have a scratch
not even a bruise
he didn't cry
nor did he know what to do
his angels were their
all by his side
to protect him
so he didn't die
the medics came
and rushed in
sadly enough
it was to late by then
the car had blown up
with loud shrieks and cries
for the people inside
surely had died
this family now gone
to live another life
their baby still here
on his dreadful night
he had no one in his life
he was all alone
to defend for himself
out in the cold
the strength he must have
to do what he does
is more than I can ever say
I thought I could do
this is story of me
and the one that saved my life
I'm the proud adopted son
of that fireman and his wife.
