The Waiting Game

Just imagine, driving down the road, the wind blowing through your hair, radio blasting your favorite song, the bass shaking the entire car, you and your friends having the time of your life, and the freedom to drive wherever you want. Sounds great, right? Well I’ll never be able to have that feeling since my mom and I can’t find time for me to take my intermediate test. Every time my mom or I have time to go, the other one doesn’t.
My mom is always busy with her work and never has time for anything else. She works at Federal Mogul here in Maysville. I’m not exactly sure what she does but I think she carries heavy parts for orders that the managers take. She works second shift which is about eleven in the morning to nine at night. She works five days a week, and sometimes she works six, depending on how close they are to deadlines. It’s really busy towards the end of the month.

When I turned sixteen in December, I had to wait almost a month before I could go and get my permit. My mom was pretty busy with work as usual, especially since it was near Christmas and the end of the year. I thought it was pretty understandable why I had to wait so long, but I’ve had my permit for nearly eight and a half months. I should’ve gone to go take my intermediate test two and a half months ago!

About a month ago, we were really close to going. My mom had scheduled off work and I wasn’t going to go to school. When the time came for us to go, I had gotten sick. Every morning for breakfast, I always eat cereal, this morning was no different except for the fact that the milk was spoiled and I had no clue. When I started to eat, I gagged on the taste of it. A few seconds later, I was about to throw up so I ran to the trashcan. I didn’t make it in time and I threw up all over the side of the trashcan and on the floor. I was pretty mad at myself for getting sick, and my mom was even madder that I missed the trashcan.

I’m hoping that we will work something out so I can go and take my test, preferably soon, so I can be free and independent. It’s really aggravating and time- consuming to rely on others to take you where you need to go. As soon as I get my intermediate license, I’ll drive wherever, and whenever, I want. But until then, all I can do is wait.
