Characters:

Jocelyn: A smart teenage girl that loves reading.

Justin: An annoying older brother that’s always in Jocelyn’s business.

Joseph: A hardworking dad.

(Jocelyn enters the basement)

Scene 1:

Jocelyn: “I wonder if I can find my old books down here.”

(Jocelyn starts looking through boxes.)

Jocelyn: “What’s this?”

(Jocelyn finds a key.)

Jocelyn: “This key looks like it goes to one of the drawers in my dad's office.”

(Jocelyn walks up the stairs to her dad’s office.)

Jocelyn: “I wonder what drawer it goes to?”

(Jocelyn starts trying keys on the drawers in her dad’s office.)

(Suddenly she hears footsteps in the hallway.)

(Justin enters the office.)

Justin: “What are you doing in dad’s office?”

Jocelyn: “None of your business.”

(Justin leaves the office and goes back downstairs.)

(Jocelyn hears more footsteps in the hallway.)

(She closes the drawer.)

(Joseph enters.)

Joseph: “What are you doing in my office sweetie.”

Jocelyn: “Oh hey dad, I was looking for my phone have you seen it?”

Joseph: “No, but I don’t think it would be in my office.”

Jocelyn: “Oh ok bye.”

Joseph: “Wait!!!”

(Jocelyn stops walking and thinks to herself “Just stay calm, he doesn’t know.”)

Jocelyn: “Yeah dad.”

Joseph: “It’s in your back pocket.”

Jocelyn: “Oh, thanks bye.”

Scene 2:

(A few moments later, Joseph leaves the office and Jocelyn enters.)

Jocelyn: “I wonder if the key fits the last drawer?”

(Justin enters the office.)

Justin: “Why do you keep sneaking around the house?”

Jocelyn: “None of your business, go away.”

Justin: “I’m going to find out what you're doing, and when I do, I’m going to tell dad!!!!”

Jocelyn: “Will you just go away, you’re the most annoying brother ever.”

(Justin leaves.)

(Moments Later)

(Jocelyn enters the office and puts the key in the drawer. It opens.)

Jocelyn: “What’s this?”

(Justin Enters)

Justin: “Why are you back in here?”

Jocelyn: "Why do you keep following me?”

Justin: “I told you, I’m going to find out what you are doing?”

Jocelyn: “Why do you want to find out what I’m doing so bad?”

Justin: “I just love telling on you.”

Jocelyn: "Your so annoying, go away!!!!!”

Justin: "Not until you tell me what you’re doing.”

Jocelyn: “Fine, promise you won’t tell dad.”

Justin: “Fine.”

Jocelyn: "I went into the basement to look for my old books and I found this key. I noticed it looked like it went to one of these drawers in dad’s office. So, I came up here to see which drawer it went to but, dad came back. I waited for him to leave then, I came back and tried the last drawer and found this.”

(Jocelyn hands Justin the papers.)

Jocelyn: “Am I adopted.”
