Wake Up
Dozens of Forget Me Nots swayed beside her, dancing to the rhythm of the tune she hummed. It was a simple lullaby, just a song her mother used to sing to her to help her fall asleep. She picked a flower and watched it bloom in the palm of her hand. if she were waiting for it to whisper "forget me not". She skipped through the meadow and felt the soft touch of each petal brush against her legs. Everything felt like a dream to her. She twirled around in circles until she came face to face with a door, a wooden door, with a dirty yellow doorknob.
The door had a keyhole the size of her hand, so she could easily peek through to the other side. Her eyes widened as big as they could go. She felt her body tense up just as an eye blinked from the other side. She stumbled backwards and landed on the bed of flowers. She covered her eyes and felt breathing in her ear. Her breathing stopped just as she decided to be brave enough to open her eyes.
The door was gone. The flowers were gone. There was nothing left but empty darkness. She had no feeling. She was not afraid or confused or even happy. She put her palms over her eyes, hoping it was all a dream. She shook her head, telling herself it wasn't real. Her body tightened just as a familiar voice whispered in her ear, "wake up".
