I cowered; I shrunk into the corner of her living room.

I didn’t think I would be in this position 4 hours earlier. Who would care? I didn’t think she would be staring into the tawny eyes, glinting with menace. I never imagined that sweat beading down his face, as if trying to cool him, trying to calm him.
He yells in an unknown language. Foreign and different to my untrained ears. It’s so fast. Fast even than my hummingbird heart. Tension builds as tears well.
His muscles constrict and strike like a cobra. And again. And again. Then finally things quiet.
His steps out of the house echo through the empty halls. I scurry to her, and she sobs.

My heart slows, and pounds steadily and heavy like the beat on an Indian drum. Its all my fault.
