August 2022 Fiction Contest: Nameless Flight
Danna looks up. A friendly shove, an encouraging smile. Mallie standing next to her. Dawn would rise. Danna, never again. Danna will be no more, she hopes.
She jumps off the cliff.
Eyes open. Nothing remains, not even Danna. But the girl is still there. Can one even be there, if one is nothing?
Physically, no. But Danna isn’t there, because Danna isn’t herself anymore. Is it possible to shed one’s skin and begin anew?
Pens scratching, pages moving. Questions asked, left for later, left unanswered. A life gone wasted.
Eyes closed. Dawn. She can dream, but Danna is still there.
