‘The Bear’: A tasteful bite of reality
A series that will stress you the heck out, The Bear is a show that will take you on an intense rollercoaster of emotions. Depicting the stress of working in a restaurant and also being in a dysfunctional family, The Bear is about a Michelin-star chef who has now been in charge of his late brothers’ sandwich shop. As the shop's new owner, he has to face the struggles of the store's past debt, poor equipment, and poor staff. This six-episode series makes you feel like you're in charge of a business and are a part of the journey. The Creators state, “ The Bear is about food, family, the insanity of the grind, the beauty of Sense of Urgency and the steep slippery downsides.”With a short runtime, the show does a great job of giving character depth, Carmy being a young chef who has a huge amount of stress yet still having enough coolness to be able to manage his business, Sydney becoming an upcoming cook who leads to be second in command and Richard who from all characters in the show has the most depth from all. As the show progresses you learn more of him and how he's a staple to what The Bear is all about. Each character's story becomes a full circle with them all having a similarity that connects them all together, Which ultimately is food and that’s really what the show is all about. The great possibilities of cooking are very much shown all around each episode of this show, The way it can either be hectic or calming when cooking, really shows the symbolic meaning of what food can be to someone for example, in the show certain characters either love cooking with passion or hate it cause of certain memories. And that's what this show is trying to depict. As you watch the show you understand the beauty of cooking and the love plus anger that is put into it, As the show depicts the love that your mother puts in her cooking or the anger that is shown with each flip and stir when working in a busy kitchen. As you continue to watch this show you will become having a huge sense of anxiety from every kitchen scene that is shown. As the show viewer you begin to get a huge connection with every character since they are all shown with great structure. It opens your eyes and makes you ask yourself what is the meaning of food and cooking, is it just a necessity or something more, something greater, or something you can love?
