Kendrick Lamar’s album Good Kid, m.A.A.D City is an album about sex, drugs, violence and a life growing up in Compton, California. Compton is one of the most corrupted places in the United States with the violence of gangs, poverty and the selling of illegal drugs. Growing up in this neighborhood, Kendrick has found a way to express himself by writing music. The album Good kid, m.A.A.D City shows his life story and in the beginning of the album is dark. It talks about turning to drugs, drive by shootings, and robbing local stores. Towards the end of the album it talks about Kendrick coming out with his new music and not following his friend’s footsteps. It’s very inspirational because he is saying that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Good Kid, M.A.A.D City is an amazing and inspirational album. With the amount of corruption in America, the inspiration of Kendrick Lamar can help teens like me. “Stand for something or fall for anything, and you working with two left feet at the skating ring”, Kendrick Lamar. In this quote Kendrick is saying that to not be normal and to be someone and that without standing out you’ll just be normal; not different.
My favorite song is Back Seat Free Style, it is my favorite because it talks about Kendrick having a dream and how Martin Luther King Jr. was his inspiration to become a better person and how people did not believe in his dream of becoming a rap star. I can relate to this because many people look down upon me and do not think that I cannot fulfill my dream of being a surgeon. One day I will be that famous surgeon that people can look up to.
I recommend that you buy this album. It is an inspirational album and is great music. It is story that will never be forgotten and it has different artists on his album such as Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Drake, and Mary J. Blige. This album has won many awards such as the BET Hip-Hop Award and other awards with BET and MTV music awards. I recommend that you really listen to the album because it is astonishing music. It will really change your views and make you appreciate music a little better.
