Hunger Games/Twilight
Action and Romance
“I'd never given much thought to how I would die--though I'd had reason enough in the last few months--but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this.” Bella’s first words in the story Twilight.
Billions of people around the world love this action romance movie. I have never seen such a romantic movie with such action brought into it. The characters picked for the movie meshed well as well as the scene. Being able to write such a powerful book and being able to get the book and the movie to mesh so well is well done.
"The main draw here is Bella's infatuation with outsider Edward, the sense of danger inherent in their love, and Edward's inner struggle—a perfect metaphor for the sexual tension that accompanies adolescence. These will be familiar to nearly every teen, and will keep readers madly flipping the pages of Meyer's tantalizing debut." (Publishers Weekly). The review from publishers weekly goes along with what Stephenie Meyer tells to her audience.“Essentially, everyone gets everything they want, even if their desires necessitate an about-face in characterization or the messy introduction of some back story. Nobody has to renounce anything or suffer more than temporarily--in other words, grandeur is out. This isn't about happy endings; it's about gratification. A sign of the times?”Stephenie Meyer tells her audience, “In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire. They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately.”
“When I wake up, the other side of the bed is cold. My fingers stretch out, seeking Prim’s warmth but finding only the rough canvas cover of the mattress. She must have had bad dreams and climbed in with our mother. Of course, she did. This is the day of the reaping,” this is the first paragraph of the hunger games. This movie brings action and a little bit of romance to the next level. The actors of this movie are from all different cultures and backgrounds and being able to play the movie in the time frame that they did so wonderfully makes this one of the top movies in 2012.
“Arena of love and war,” is what Amy Biancolli San Francisco Chronicle reviews the Hunger games as. “This is better than any of the "Twilights." It features a functioning creative imagination and lots of honest-to-goodness it also brings her usual toughness and emotional transparency to the archer-heroine Katniss.”
The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games have been the two big teenage hits since 2008. They both have action and romance put together in the movie, with the Hunger Games focusing on action and Twilight focusing on love. Together they master romance and action into a movie. Being able to add to genres to one book/movie is an audience pleaser for the simple reason of liking action and romance.
Both movies capture romance scenes, from the first kiss to the hand holding, and the protecting each other. Giving life for one that is loved is something that both movies have in common. Edward would do anything for Bella in Twilight, and Peeta would do anything for Katniss. Even if that means giving his life for her.
The music in both movies have the same idea also, Taylor Swift does a song from the hunger games, and Christianna Perry does a song in Twilight. Both movies have the action scary music during certain parts, but they both have a few slow romance songs. The songs in these two movies were both made for them specifically and the artists that perform the songs were specifically picked out.
However every movie has their differences that make the movie unique. One of the big differences of both movies is the time era. Hunger Games is filmed in the future, Twilight is filmed in the present. The whole point of the movies are different. Hunger games is about the capitol taking over the world, whereas Twilight is all about vampires. But they still manage to bring the points to the movies is such wonderful ways.
The amount of characters they use in each of the movies are a lot alike. They have a mix of personalities and body types. As well as mixed races and accents. Having a diverse crew of actors and actresses is a delightful thing.
The ending of both movies get summed exactly as the book does. Nothing is left out and nothing is added. The authors of both stories were able to sum up the video but keep people off their seats for the whole movie. Then leave everyone watching the movie in suspense at the end. Well done to both authors and all the crew.
