The Oath is a surprisingly charming comedy that revolves around an alternate reality where US citizens are being asked to sign a loyalty oath to the president. Because Chris, who is strongly against the oath and has more democratic political views, has been doing everything in his hands to ensure that other don't sign the oath, he thinks Thanksgiving is going to have more feuds than usual, since his brother, Pat, and his girlfriend, Abby, strongly disagree and are big supporters of the oath. Since Chris gets agitated with his other family members that fight with him on politics, he fears that this Thanksgiving is going to be worse than usual. To make matters worse, because innocent people are being attacked for protesting the oath, Chris constantly wants to turn on the news and see what is happening, which means that politics is a topic that will constantly be brought up, making fighting seem inevitable. Things take an even more brutal route when two CPU agents, who are people that work for the government and are people who try to make sure that everyone signs the oath, show up to Chris's house and have no intent on leaving anytime soon.
The Oath manages to provide an insane amount of entertainment and is sure to please. The beginning of the movie brilliantly sets the stage, and audiences are immediately introduced to Chris's high-strung personality. The middle of the movie marvelously progresses things along and provides new, exciting obstacles for the characters on screen. The enticing ending of the movie manages to be quite exhilarating and is definitely a great way to conclude the movie. The movie is actually packed to the brim with thrilling twists and turns at seemingly every inch and corner, so viewers really have no idea what's going to happen, making watching the movie suspenseful, dramatic, and incredibly intense, helping to make people want to stay on the edges of their seats, eager for what comes next.

The Oath is actually able to surprise just about anyone and everyone who sees it, since the movie is just so unpredictable. Although there are a few aspects that are slightly predictable, for the most part, people really don't know what's going to happen and who it's going to happen to, helping to make the movie part mystery. The movie is able to succeed in making a clear political statement and does a good job of elucidating its themes without just directly stating it in a bland manner.

The Oath benefits greatly from actually being a superb concept. It is very typical to have families fight on Thanksgiving, which is one of the most American holidays out there, and politics are almost always a topic that people avoid. However, when the stakes escalate and are able to create drama that many can relate to, the movie is able to be a good fit for a wide variety of audiences, since many are able to understand how much fighting and arguing can really occur on the holiday.

The Oath also has a tremendous cast that is truly able to transform into their roles. Ike Barinholtz does a fantastic job of playing Chris, and he is really able to sell the entire idea of having the character be truly grounded in his beliefs, regardless of what others think. Tiffany Haddish is able to play Chris's wife, Kai, spectacularly and is able to become a fierce character that doesn't feel the need to listen to anyone, helping to make the character seem like a good fit for Chris. The two of them create an amazing action duo on screen that helps to really sell the idea of having a couple that is challenged to do what's best for their family.

The Oath proves to be a comedy that is so much more than the sum of its parts and is definitely one to watch, since it is able to create an awesome adventure that combines politics, family,  and Thanksgiving in a manner that feels completely original and creative.
