Hulk is a movie revolving around the green, smashing antihero known as the Hulk. It all begins with the Hulk's origins, and the movie even goes way back before Bruce Banner was even born. After a series of various science experiments that occur, Bruce Banner soon finds himself with strange DNA. When an experiment goes horribly wrong and Bruce decides to push a fellow scientist out of the way to save his life, Bruce gets shot with blasts of gamma radiation rays that forever change Bruce's life. Although Banner initially feels fine afterwards, when a janitor explains to Bruce that he isn't actually okay, things begin to get complicated. The janitor claims to be Bruce's biological father, and even though Bruce is more than just a little skeptical at first, they eventually compare their DNAs to realize that they are in fact related. Bruce soon learns that with his now changed DNA, he can transform into the green, muscular, powerful Hulk and wreck havoc. However, dear consequences come with this curse as Bruce Banner tries his best to live a normal life, which might be an impossible task.
Hulk is a slightly confusing movie throughout, and the beginning of the movie actually further complicates everything and does not set up the rest for success. The entire movie feels very eerie, and the movie feels way too long.

The whole thing is extremely slow, which is horrible, considering that the film should be action-packed, seeing as it revolves around such an interesting character in Bruce Banner/Hulk. Because the movie is so slow-paced, it is quite easy for viewers to lose interest in the movie early on. Secondly, because the movie's main villain is the internal conflict between Bruce Banner and the Hulk, the movie never builds up that much drama, suspense, or intensity. Hulk doesn't have any traditional villains in it, so there aren't any cool, action-packed, battle scenes, and there isn't really a true climax that manages to entice audiences.

Although the actual concept of trying to be original and creative by not having any true villains is a solid one, Hulk actually fails because of this. Yes, the fresh vision is an interesting take on the superhero genre, but the movie really doesn't manage to become a success. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie a fairly poor 62%, and Metacritic gave the movie a not-so-great 54%. Only 74% of Google users liked the movie, which is actually incredibly low.

With that said, Hulk has some truly amazing visual effects, and these superb special effects help to add a science fiction-esque to the movie, as well as help to make the movie feel slightly more realistic. Hulk certainly isn't perfect and will definitely not sit will with certain viewers, but it is one of the more unique superhero movies out there.
