“A Child Called It” is a must read, heartbreaking novel. This is one of the saddest books I have ever read. It is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. There are many moments in this book where it makes you want to just jump into the book and save the little boy. No one should have to go through what Dave Pelzer went through.
“A Child Called It” is set in the late 1990’s in California. The main conflict is about a little boy named Dave Pelzer, struggling to survive the horrible abuse by his mother. It all starts when his mother begins to drink. His father works as a fireman so he doesn’t really have time to be home. Dave’s beatings are never as bad or as harsh when his father is home. Since his father is not home all the time, Dave’s mother starts to beat Dave more and more often and they beatings get worse every time.
Over all, I really enjoyed reading this book. There are some very disturbing parts of this book that may upset the reader. I don’t like to read books very often, but this book was so suspenseful, sad, interesting, and heartbreaking that I just couldn’t put the book down. I would recommend this book to just about any of my friends.
In conclusion, this is a very good book. “A Child Called It” is very well written, suspenseful, sad, and heartwarming all at the same time. It really makes you feel bad for the little boy, and it makes you think about how good you have it at home and might even make you appreciate your parents more. Dave Pelzer did a phenomenals job on describing his story and I think that everyone should read this book at one point in their life.
