To Kill A Mockingbird
In a small town named Maycomb, Scout and her brother Jem lived and faced many harsh situations dealing with their father Atticus. Atticus, a lawyer in Maycomb, sought to help Tom Robinson, an African American man, after being falsely accused of the rape of a white woman named Ms. Mayella in a very small town full of discrimination and racism. Regardless of all the hatred, Atticus still seeks to prove Tom Robinson innocent.
To Kill a Mockingbird targets very controversial topics that are very different and would be considered unusual compared to other books. Though narrated by a young girl named Scout, the book covers dark real-world situations. Scout is a very tomboy like girl usually surrounded by males her entire life. Her mother, who passed away when Scout was just two years old, was not someone Scout really cared for. I personally relate to this situation because when I was younger, my parents went through a divorce when I was at a young age so I have a stronger love for one of my parents than the other. In To Kill a Mockingbird you can really build strong connections with each character depending on your background but even then I feel like everyone can relate in at least one way. The characters in the book all come from a very small town and had very prosperous ancestors, but they still have a very harsh life.
Though at the beginning of the book To Kill a Mockingbird may come across as uninteresting, it then begins to have breathtaking scenes throughout the book. I highly recommend the book to those who are interested in historical fiction and are more interested in controversial books. I recommended the book to the common reader because it targets very interesting topics and is very different from other usual books.
