The BMW Z4M is arguably one of the most important cars in the iconic German auto maker’s history. By the release of the Z4M in 2006, cars were already getting bigger, heavier, and filled to the brim with complex, modern electronic systems. As the years passed, advancements in automotive technology created an increasing disconnect between drivers, their automobiles, and the driving experience. The Z4M was the last of a dying breed, a tried and true driver's car. Its two-door coupe construction, S54 naturally aspirated inline-six engine, mandatory six-speed manual transmission, and radically new design language made the Z4M the pinnacle of automotive enjoyment. Although praised by enthusiasts today, the Z4 was an ugly duckling to many upon its release. Its dramatic curves and creases were vastly different than the bland and boxy design language that was the norm throughout the '90s and early 2000s. The styling was controversial. But, any contentment towards the Z4M is immediately invalidated after hopping behind the wheel. The Z4M is an animal. Its perfectly tuned chassis devours corners on winding roads while its iconic 338 horsepower 3.2 liter S55 inline six-cylinder engine, straight out of the E46 M3, simultaneously screams to 8000 RPMs. The Z4M is what it means to be a BMW. The Z4M is the ultimate driving machine.
