Reflection Upon the Past
She reflects upon the past,
the joy that warmed her skin,
the nights blurred in reckless car rides,
the days that had no end,
the spur of the moment adventures,
the wild city lights,
the warm walk-filled days,
the careless chilly nights,
the songs that latched to memories,
the faces that brightened eyes,
the mornings still dipped in nightfall,
the 5 AM goodbyes,
the smile that pulled their faces tight,
the laughter that made them tear,
the people who once held a heartbeat,
were no longer here,
their conversations turned to conflict,
their light turned to shade,
banter turned to insults,
love turned into hate,
thus, they’ll tell you not to reflect,
to not focus and not to worry,
it’s easy when you’re breathing fine
but I've been drowning in these stories
